Picture Guides To Organisms Of Glover's Reef Atoll, Belize
These guides are provided to assist students, instructors, researchers and visitors in identification of the resident and transient plants and animals of the islands, lagoon, reefs and adjacent waters of Glover's Reef Atoll. They may be downloaded to computers and other devices, copied, printed and used freely for purposes of education, study and learning.
The guides and their images can be viewed with good resolution on computers and many models of hand-held smart phones, I-pods, and notepads such as the "I-Phone", "Imagio", "Droid", "I-Pod Touch", "I-Pad" and others, including some underwater digital cameras such as the "Fugi z33 wp". This can be an interesting "hi-tech" alternative to using printed or laminated hard-copies in the field. The phones have viewing screens in the neighborhood of 2" X 3.5" so they can show individual pictures in the guides at their full size, and can zoom in for more detail. One may scroll page to page, up, down, left and right and magnify the images and text as desired. All these devices can read and store .jpeg images. Some are able to read and store .pdf files with the help of apps such as "Goodreader".
The Picture Guides are presented here in both formats. The .pdf guides are of greater resolution and best for computers, reproduction and printing. For those devices that don't support the .pdf format, the .jpeg files are suitable. However, the .jpeg guides must be downloaded, saved and viewed one page at a time.
Permission to use the images in the guides has been granted or licensed by the separate image owners. There are no restrictions on copying, printing, reproducing or saving the guides intact for educational or learning uses. If individual images are extracted and used separate from the guides, then the copyright privileges of the image donors may apply.
Any photo not bearing some kind of credit on it was taken by Dr. Tom Bright, at Glover's Reef Atoll. Other Glover's images are variously by Alex Tilley, Dr. Archie Carr III, Dr. Steve Gittings, Marie Smedley, and Jennifer Rowntree or were taken from the 2007 Glover's Reef Management Plan.
Many of the images are from localities other than Glover's Reef Atoll but all represent species known to occur there.
